23 Weeks Update!

How your baby's growing: Your baby is more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound. His skin is red and wrinkled. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare him for breathing. He can swallow, but he normally won't pass his first stool (called meconium) until after birth. Loud noises heard often in utero — such as your dog barking or the roar of a vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze your baby when he hears them outside the womb.

We're scheduled for our next ultrasound this coming Monday. I can't wait to see how much she's grown!!

Favorite moments...

This morning, Dan came back to bed with a small cup of coffee for me. Riley hopped up and stretched out in between us for a happy-dog snuggle. Mitten climbed up and sat on the headboard, inspecting the situation. Vi started her morning laps, and we just stared and stared at the way my belly goes bump-bump-bump every time she moves.

There's nothing, NOTHING, quite like starting the day with the whole family piled into the bed, all warm, cozy, sweet...and fully present in the moment.

22 Week update

A little late in posting this week, but here it is:

How your baby's growing:
Your baby now looks like a miniature newborn, checking in at 10.9 inches and almost 1 pound. Her skin will continue to appear wrinkled until she gains enough weight to fill it out, and the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her head and body is now visible. Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. Her eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks pigment. Eyelids and eyebrows are in place, and her pancreas, essential for hormone production, is developing steadily.

Me? I'm really, really, really tired. I can't wait to catch up on some rest and get some fresh air this weekend.

Vi? She's not really tired, or so it seems by her constant squirming! I swear, she's swimming laps.

Dan? He's really tired, and stressed. Trying to gear up for his busy season at work with a skeleton crew!
